Vortexa unveils real-time data on global refined oil product flows

Technology

Vortexa, an artificial intelligence powered analytics company focused on energy markets, has announced to provide users with a real-time view of global seaborne movements of refined oil products such as gasoline, diesel, fuel oil and jet fuel

Since launching in Q1 2017, the Vortexa platform focused on crude oil flows. The addition of a refined oil products suite now presents a unique level of competitive market intelligence on the flow of energy commodities across the globe.

Traders, analysts, investors and other energy commodity professionals can use Vortexa’s streamlined interface to quickly obtain a live supply picture, identify new trading opportunities and discover insights on timely topics including:

· Diesel/Gasoil: The unusual shift in global arbitrage flows, such as Indian and European diesel heading to the US Atlantic Coast during the cold snap this winter and interesting cargo diversions in real-time.

· Gasoline/Blending Components: The competition between European and US refiners to supply key demand centres in Latin America and West Africa and shifting dynamics in Chinese imports/exports as its refineries ramp up output.

· Jet Fuel/Kerosene: Surging jet fuel demand in Asia-Pacific, growing export streams from new mega refineries and demand from some of the world’s biggest new airport projects.

· Fuel Oil: The movement of very-large-crude-carriers (VLCCs) from Rotterdam to Singapore and the emergence of new destinations for cargoes as the world begins to comply with the International Maritime Organisation’s global 0.5pc sulphur cap on marine fuels from 2020.

· Naphtha: Naphtha flows to Asia-Pacific, and continually evolving demand for the product from the gasoline blending pool and petrochemicals sector.

· Vacuum Gasoil (VGO): Changes in refinery activity implied by VGO flows, including shifts in crude and product slates and the status of maintenance works.

· Bitumen/Asphalt: Changes in refinery activity, construction and infrastructure trends indicated by bitumen flows.

To complement the new products, Vortexa has launched a news and insights page on their website that highlights valuable market-relevant information on crude oil and individual refined oil products, sourced exclusively from data on the Vortexa platform. This section will include interesting arbitrage movements and cargo diversions, major headline trends and upcoming events.

Fabio Kuhn, Co-Founder and CEO of Vortexa, commented, “In recent years, the global availability of data has grown exponentially, but, until now, information about refined products has remained scarce. There are at least 10 times more tankers carrying refined oil products as compared to crude oil. It is extremely difficult for market participants to know which refined product a tanker is carrying.”

“Artificial intelligence is transforming modern industry by providing businesses with unprecedented levels of information that can be game changing when it comes to how they think and operate,” Kuhn added.

“Using machine learning, Vortexa has solved the seaborne refined products problem at a global scale, equipping market participants with the information they need, at a superior level of detail, accuracy and speed,” he further noted.
