Chalmers Engineering expands use of AVEVA software

Chalmers Engineering (L.L.C.), a leading oil and gas EPC based in the UAE, has selected AVEVA Bocad for the structural steel detailing of its onshore and offshore projects

Already using AVEVA’s 3D design modelling software, Chalmers is now able to seamlessly add AVEVA Bocad to its design process, via the AVEVA Bocad Steel interface.

AVEVA Bocad Steel enables rapid, high-quality, detailed design, fabrication and construction, for commercial projects such as stadiums, bridges, skyscrapers, pre-engineered buildings, industrial, agricultural and residential buildings. AVEVA Bocad Offshore offers additional features for the specific needs of the offshore industry on assets such as jackets, topsides, turrets, FPSOs and jack-up rigs.

“AVEVA software gives us more accurate fabrication deliverables for the specific needs of the industry we serve,” said George Kurien, senior design engineer at Chalmers. “Its key differentiator was how easily it could integrate structural steel detailing into 3D design. The combination of AVEVA Bocad Steel and AVEVA Bocad Offshore helps us save time due to the automated engineering process and we no longer rely on manual 2D tools for our structural steel design."

“Conventionally, steel detailing is outsourced to specialist contractors, breaking the necessary close integration between piping and structural design, and creating opportunities for inconsistencies, clashes, costly rework and project delays,” added Louis Khoury, SVP of Operations - MEA. “AVEVA’s strategic acquisition of the Bocad software, and subsequently FabTrol, enables close collaboration, high productivity and reduced business risk in the integration of plant structural and piping design.”

Work with the expanded software solution will begin this year on an offshore project for the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).
