BAPCO Upstream (former Tatweer Petroleum) partners with ZALUX to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability across remote installations in the Kingdom of Bahrain

ZALUX, a European leader in industrial lighting solutions, has reinforced its strategic presence in the Middle East by delivering a comprehensive lighting package for Tatweer Petroleum, Bahrain’s national upstream oil and gas company. The project, which involved outfitting 20 remote gas hydration units and oil well manifolds, marks ZALUX’s largest collaboration with Tatweer to date.

Selected by Canadian EPC contractor TDE Overseas Ltd, ZALUX provided more than 700 STRONGEx and OREx luminaires, tailored to meet the demanding environmental and safety requirements of the installations. The fixtures were deployed across indoor and outdoor sites exposed to extreme desert conditions, including ambient temperatures reaching up to 55°C and prolonged direct sunlight.

“Our investment in the Middle East is yielding strong results, with growth exceeding expectations by 5–8%,” said Ryan Julaton, EPC sales director MEA & APAC. “This project with Tatweer Petroleum highlights our commitment to delivering high-performance, sustainable lighting solutions that meet the region’s unique challenges.”

The STRONGEx luminaire, designed for explosionproof environments, combines traditional tubular aesthetics with modern engineering. Unlike conventional models that use glass and aluminum, STRONGEx features recyclable PMMA materials, offering superior impact resistance, chemical durability, and reduced weight, approximately 50% lighter than comparable products. Its LED and smart control technology ensures lower energy consumption and a projected 20-year lifespan.

Complementing this, the OREx2 high bay luminaires are ATEX and IECEx certified for Zone 2 applications. Engineered to operate in temperatures up to 75°C, they deliver high energy efficiency. These fixtures not only enhance operational safety but also contribute to significant reductions in energy use and carbon emissions.

To meet Tatweer’s specific mounting and interconnection requirements, ZALUX customised its accessory offerings, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure. Luminaires were manufactured at ZALUX’s QAR/QAN certified European facility, with third-party ATEX/IECEx certification ensuring rigorous quality and compliance standards.

“This project showcases our ability to adapt and innovate for the oil and gas sector,” Ryan Julaton added. “From design to end-of-life, our solutions are built with sustainability and long-term value in mind.”

With this successful deployment, Tatweer Petroleum gains a robust, energy-efficient lighting system that aligns with its technical and environmental goals. The collaboration underscores ZALUX’s growing influence in the Middle East and its role in supporting the region’s industrial transformation.
