Glasgow-based TUV SUD NEL, the flow measurement R&D specialist, has completed the base building that will house its US$21.40mn advanced multiphase facility (AMF)
The construction began in September 2017 and the extensive fit-out will now commence, said the company.
Once completed, the AMF’s test range capability of operating pressures, temperatures, flow rates and metrology are expected to provide a cutting-edge solution to the global oil and gas sectors. Operating at pressures up to 150 bar, this facility is set to double current capabilities to replicate extreme production conditions.
The AMF will span 1,600 sq m, and contain a US$1.94mn, full production scale separator with an operating weight of 270 tonnes. The AMF will also provide an integrated subsea choke, as well as be capable of testing the full range of flow meters, from two inch to 12 inch.
Apart from providing opportunities for industry-led projects and training, the AMF will also support in academic research. Aiming to create about 17 new jobs, the AMF is expected to future-proof the delivery of innovative technical services to the oil and gas production market for the next 25 years, and position Scotland in a leading position in multiphase flow measurement.

For the AMF, Scottish Enterprise has granted US$6.55mn of research and development funding. In addition, TUV SUD NEL’s parent company, TUV SUD AG, is investing US$14.84mn which makes the project the largest capital investment to date in the company’s UK business.
