Occidental Oman and Gulf Intelligence have teamed up to recognise Omani and Oman-based postgraduates for their achievements in the field of energy
The company said that the nominations for the award will be evaluated by a selection committee that will announce four winners, two Masters and two PhD postgraduates.
This initiative comes in line with the Sultanate’s objective to celebrate its brightest minds to encourage them to create a new era of innovation in the country. The award will be presented at the fifth Gulf Intelligence Oman Energy Forum on 28 November 2017, in Muscat.
Students, professors, and industry stakeholders are invited to nominate exemplary individuals, along with an explanation for their choice and details on how their research supports Oman’s future goals.
The nominee should be an Omani national or Oman-based and Oman-educated for a period of 10 consecutive years.
The awards mark an important step in efforts exerted by stakeholders in industry and academia to inspire an ethos of innovation and research and development (R&D) in Oman. Such mentalities and working environments are expected to create more job opportunities for the country’s brightest students.
Stephen A. Kelly, president and general manager of Occidental Oman, said, “Postgraduates’ intellectual appetite for pushing the boundaries of what we think we know should be recognised and supported. In this way, we can foster a positive cycle of inspiration and mentorship for even younger generations.”
Along with entrepreneurship, skills development and other enabling efforts along with enhancement of a focused research capability can play crucial role in diversification and development of a sustainable economy, Kelly explained.
Around 300 Masters and PhD students have enrolled across 60 different programs at the Sultan Qaboos University in 2017, marking one of the university’s highest enrolment rates so far.
