India to take on oil and gas projects in Iraq

India has announced that it will build refineries and petrochemical plants in Iraq and that is keen to source LNG from the country

M. Veerappa Moily, Indian Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, also expressed interest in setting up gas-based projects in Iraq.

Moily said, “Indian oil and gas companies have the expertise and are willing to participate in building oil refineries, petrochemical plants and fertiliser units in Iraq.

“We will also be interested in gas-based projects and importing LNG from Iraq.”

Iraq PM Noori Al-Maliki said that the country would also cooperate with India in sectors connected to oil and gas industry.

India has offered to train Iraqi personnel in the oil and gas sector, and would exchange ideas and expertise to help make the Middle East nation’s state-owned firms more efficient and profitable, according to Indian Ministry sources.
