GPT Industries’ EVOLUTION gasket was successfully used to ensure a tight seal on a compressor located on an offshore platform in the Middle East
Problem
A gas compressor manufacturer was looking for an insulation kit to be fitted to one of its compressors, located on an offshore platform within the Persian-Arabian Gulf. As the gas was of a sour nature, the isolation gasket had to withstand the highly corrosive operating conditions. Ensuring a tight seal was a must because of the potential for serious harm from leakage of the media.
Significance
To meet the schedule of the project the compressor wasn’t installed and had to be installed in transit. This added complication resulted in a minimal working space and a reduction in the length of the joint connections.

Solutions
Following consultation with the EPC organisation, EVOLUTION was recommended due to the 1/8” thickness of the isolation gasket and unique ID seal technology. The EPC was instrumental in advising the manufacturer to use the EVOLUTION isolation kit, having used EVOLUTION in a previous project. They provided the confidence and technical assurances required to embrace this innovation. Installation was deemed a success and wouldn’t have been possible with the traditional thickness of convention isolation gaskets. EVOLUTION remains isolated and leak free.
