Production on phases 17 and 18 of Irans South Pars gas field will begin in late 2012, according a statement by the Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC)
POGC managing director Mousa Souri said that one train of the South Pars gas field phase 12 would also come online during the current Iranian calendar year (ending on 20 March 2013).
"By launching 17 and 18 phases, we will be assured of meeting the country's gas needs during the winter," Souri remarked.
On the latest physical progress of the South Pars gas field phases, Souri said that phases 20 and 21 had progressed 50 and 43 per cent respectively in both the offshore and onshore sectors. The company will treat the gas from phases 17 and 18 at onshore processing plants in Assaluyeh.
Souri added that the offshore sector of phase 12 had progressed by 84 per cent, and noted that phases 17 and 18 in the offshore sector were ahead of onshore sector in terms of physical progress.
Eight phases of the South Pars gas field have been scheduled to come online up until the end of next Iranian calendar year on 20 March 2014.
So far US$41bn of credit has been earmarked for implementation of development plans at South Pars gas field of which US$17bn have been invested since last year. The total cost of the South Pars gas field development has been estimated at US$71bn.
