The Barzan Gas project will come on stream in 2014 and it is expected first gas will produce 40mn cubic metres per day, according to local sources
Qatari energy minister Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada said the country's offshore gas project is on track to be commissioned next year, The Peninsula reported.
The project, located in the offshore North Field, is designed to supply the country’s rising domestic demand generated by planned new air and seaports, hospitality ventures, a railway project and 2022 FIFA World Cup.
During 2010, the FEED stage was completed and fund-raising initiated. RasGas is the developer and operator of the Barzan Gas project with Qatar Petroleum owning a 93 per cent stake and ExxonMobil holding seven per cent.
The joint venture agreement at an estimated cost of US$8.7bn was signed in January 2011 between Qatar Petroleum and ExxMobil, Barzan Ltd, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Corp.
The project includes a natural gas offshore production system with conventional wellhead platforms, intra-field pipelines and export pipelines to an onshore Barzan Gas Plant located in Ras Laffan Industrial City some 80km north of Doha.
The second train will be completed in 2015.
The two trains together with other RasGas facilities (LNG and pipeline sales gas) will produce nearly 2mn barrels of oil per day.
