Petroleum Development Oman reported a "significant" gas find in the Mabrouk field with estimated 4 trillion cf of recoverable gas and 112mn barrels of condensate
The find comes as a potential boost to the country, which is looking to grow production to meet rising domestic gas demand.
"This is an exciting find which will provide a boost for economic growth in Oman and help meet rising gas demand from residential, commercial and industrial customers," PDO managing director Raoul Restucci, said.
PDO, the country's largest producer, said that five wells had been drilled in the field, all of which bear gas. One well is already producing and another will be hooked up shortly, the company added.
Work is progressing on two more appraisal wells.
