LNG fuels Qatar’s 2012 export boost

Gas

Qatar’s oil and gas exports reached a total of US$133bn in 2012, up 16 per cent on the previous year, driven by higher liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments

LNG accounted for around 40 per cent of the country's exports, Qatar National Bank (QNB) said in its latest economic monitor.

The bank said, “The production of LNG was close to full capacity in 2011 and maintained the same level in 2012. Therefore, the increase in export earnings from LNG was mainly due to higher prices.

“We expect a pick up in real GDP growth to 6.5 per cent in 2013 and 6.8 per cent in 2014.”
