Iraq’s Federal Oil Ministry has said it expects the fifth round of bidding for at least 10 gas exploration sites to start soon
Abdul Mehdi al-Amidi, director general of contracts and licenses, said that the Ministry began preparations for the auction in June 2013.
All of the gas sites are located in western part of Iraq, stretching from north to the south, he added.
Abdul Kareem Luaibi, Iraq’s federal oil minister, said, “In previous contract awards, no importance was given to gas. We have now started a major project to develop gas.”
Iraq’s fourth energy auction ended in 2012 with few foreign investors tendering bids.
