Iran company's gas processing 'grows by five per cent'

Gas

The National Iranian Gas Companys (NIGC) processing plants have processed more than 136bn cubic metres of gas since 20 March 2012, up by 5 per cent on the same period last year, the company has claimed

Hasan Montazer Torbati, dispatching department manager at NIGC, said, "The volume has been transferred to consumption destinations across the country through 35,000 km of high-pressure gas grid and 70 boosting gas pressure stations."

Torbati added that 18mn cubic metres of CNG were being delivered to stations daily.

"CNG not only lowers gasoline consumption, but also make gasoline imports unnecessary, leading to self-sufficiency in production of the fuel and curbs environmental pollution," Torbati stated.

Stating that the country sits atop 16 per cent of world's gas reserves, Torbati said that Iran as the second largest holder of gas reserves, ranks fourth in the world in view of gas production capacity and consumes 4.5 per cent of the total global gas output.
