BP has approved the development of Ghazeer, the second phase of Oman’s Khazzan gas field, with its partner Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production LLC
BP’s final investment decision (FID) for Ghazeer comes after the successful commencement of Khazzan’s first phase of development last year.
The Khazzan gas field project has started production before the scheduled time, said BP. Currently, it is producing at design capacity of around one bcf of gas per day and around 35,000 bpd of condensate.
The Ghazeer project is set to come onstream in 2021 and deliver an additional 0.5 bcf per day and more than 15,000 bpd condensate production.
Once completed, the Khazzan and Ghazeer are expected to deliver total production of 10.5 tcf of gas and around 350 mmbbl of condensate, thus adding much value to the Middle East oil and gas industry.
According to BP, drilling has begun on the first three development wells, following appraisal drilling on Ghazeer last year. In addition, initial construction work has already started at Khazzan to accommodate a third gas train and associated infrastructure.
Commenting on Oman’s gas development project, Yousuf Al Ojaili, president of BP Oman, said, “Through the transfer of industry-leading skills and technology from BP’s global portfolio, we look forward to further developing this gas field that is expected to support Oman’s energy needs for many decades to come.”
