Sercel has commercially deployed its multi-sensor based solid streamer, the Sentinel MS, for the first time in the south Porcupine basin in Ireland, aiming to address the need of oil and gas industry for more detailed and accurate image of the subsurface
Sercel is a France-based designer and manufacturer of seismic equipment and reservoir monitoring instrument, which provides technologies for exploration in land, marine, ocean bottom, transition zone and reservoir environment to the oil field service companies and geophysical contractors.
According to Sercel, the Sentinel MS is being operated on a 3D CGG multi-client survey being conducted by the CGG Geo Coral in the Porcupine basin.
Pascal Rouiller, CEO of Sercel, said, “This inaugural large 3D survey confirms the Sentinel MS as the state-of-the-art technology streamer for high-end multi-sensor streamer acquisition.”
The Sentinel MS has been designed to deliver multi-sensor data sets with an aim to help the industry achieve the best broadband imaging and generate more detailed and accurate images of the subsurface.
The Sentinel MS uses a low-noise hydrophone and two accelerometers that offer directional measurements for both cross-line and vertical wave fronts.
The company clarified that the use of hydrophone and the accelerometers meet the challenge of receiver ghost-free acquisition and add to the broadband toolbox to offer the broadest bandwidth seismic data imaging techniques.
“We are confident that the Sentinel MS will attract increasing interest from the oil and gas industry as part of its quest to achieve greater processing efficiency and clearer imaging,” added Rouiller.
