Oman Oil Company (OOC) and Shell Exploration have signed a heads of agreement to work together on Oman Block 42
The first such project between OOC and Shell in Oman, the agreement means an initial aerial study will be carried out before the parties look into undertaking further exploration activities in the block. Block 42 comprises an area of about 25,600 square kilometres and there are several geological plays which could contain hydrocarbons. Previous exploration wells have proven hydrocarbon indications in the block which is comprised mainly of the north-eastern coastal range of the Oman Mountains and the basin immediately to the south under Ramlat Sharqiya.
It was signed by Isam Bin Saud Al Zadjali, chief executive officer of OOC and Chris Breeze, Shell's country chairman in Oman. The two companies already collaborate on the Pearls joint venture in Kazakhstan.
