Kuwait Energy discovers hydrocarbons in Egypt

Exploration & Production

Kuwait Energy has announced that it has hit hydrocarbons at the El Salmiya-2 well in Egypt’s western desert

Partner Beach Energy said that the hydrocarbon had been encountered in four areas situated on the Abu Sennan concession — Abu Roash ‘C’ member, Abu Roash ‘E’ member, Bahariya formation and Kharita formation.

The Australian oil and gas exploration firm added that Kuwait Energy was now setting up to test the well next week.

The El Salmiya-2 well was drilled to appraise reservoirs in the Abu Roash ‘C’ and ‘E’ members, which flowed at combined gross rates of 2,900 bpd and 453,070 cubic metres of gas per day in the El Salmiya-1 discovery well in 2012.

Kuwait Energy operates the Abu Sennan concession with a 50 per cent interest while Beach Energy holds 22 per cent. Dover Investment, an advisory service company, holds the remaining 28 per cent share.
