Iran has announced plans to increase oil output at several of its offshore oil fields in the Gulf
Jalal Mousavi, research and technology department director at the National Iranian Offshore Oil Company (NIOOC), said the state-owned firm would look to increase oil production at 10 sites, including the giant Soroush and Nourouz oil fields.
Mousavi said that research studies on the Soroush oil field, which is said to hold 7.5 billion barrels of oil-in-place reserves, had started sooner than previously scheduled in order to update the foreign advisory company working on the development of the field.
Fars News Agency reported that 30 tests would be carried out on reservoirs in the Soroush field, while Mousavi confirmed that appraisals on the other nine oil fields would start after preliminary measures had been taken.
