Heritage Oil celebrates successful drilling of Miran West-3 well

Exploration & Production

Heritage Oil has announced the successful completion of drilling and testing at the Miran West-3 well in Iraqi Kurdistan

The company found the primary gas bearing reservoir interval in the Jurassic after drilling to depth of 3,528 metres. The reservoir has indicated a constrained flow of up to 22 MMscf/d of wet gas with a yield of 20 bbl/MMscf of 55 degree API condensate.

The drilling on Miran West-3 well has been suspended for production-related work to be completed. The findings of the well has continued to de-risk the Miran Field, the company said in a statement.

"We are delighted with the Miran West 3 test results which give us great comfort on the extent of the primary gas reservoir and demonstrates its producibility," commented Heritage Oil chief executive officer Tony Buckingham.

"We are focused on the monetisation of the world class Miran Field, targeting the phased development of the field with export of the gas to the booming Turkish market."

Examination of the data has indicated that a wide and productive fracture network has been intercepted. It has been calculated that when the well starts production, it will be capable of delivering 50 MMscf/d of wet gas and 1,000 bbl/d of condensate.

Heritage Oil is planning a phased development of the Miran Field, which involves development by the end of 2013, targeting between 80 and 180 MMscfd of gas for local supplies and production between 10,000 and 15,000 bpd of oil and condensate.

According to the company, total field development would comprise of an integrated development of the oil, gas and condensate, with export of gas to Turkey expected to take place in 2015.
