Eni and Sonatrach start gas production in Algeria

Exploration & Production

Italian energy company Eni and Algerian state company Sonatrach have jointly started gas production in the Menzel Ledjmet East field

A plant, located almost 1,000km from Algiers in Block 405b, will allow for the treatment of rich gas for daily production and the sale of nine million cubic metres of gas, 15,000 barrels of oil and condensate and 12,000 barrels of LPG.

With the start of production at the MLE field and other projects, Eni is expected to achieve a daily production of 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent in 2013.

The gas project was completed four years after Eni acquired Canadian company First Calgary Petroleum who at that time were actively engaged in exploration and development in Algeria.

First Calgary had held a 75 per cent interest in the perimeter of Block 405b before being purchased buy Eni.
