Egypt’s ERQ Concession records increase in oil production

Exploration & Production

Kuwait Energy and Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation have announced that oil production has increased at the East Ras Qattara (ERQ) Concession in Egypt’s Western Desert

The average net field output for the ERQ Concession was increased to 21,000 bpd after the completion of drilling of the Shahd South East-06 development well, which added 4,800 bpd, Kuwait Energy said.

ERQ currently has 16 producing wells and two wells under development. Kuwait Energy, a privately-owned oil and gas explorer and producer that started operations in Egypt in 2008, holds 49.5 per cent working interest in the concession.

The remaining stake is held by operator Sipetrol.

Mohammad Alhowqal, chief operations officer of Kuwait Energy, had said earlier this year that the company planned to invest US$102mn in Egypt as part of its plan to expand its operation in the North African country.
