The government of Bahrain on Sunday reported its largest oil find in more than eight decades located off its west coast

The announcement was made by Higher Committee for Natural Resources and Economic Security, chaired by the Crown Prince, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Bahrain’s minister of oil, Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, said that analysis of the field’s content, size and extraction viability has been undertaken with petroleum industry consultant, DeGolyer and MacNaughton.

Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa added, “...initial analysis demonstrates the find is at substantial levels, capable of supporting the long-term extraction of tight oil and deep gas."

“This is a project which breaks new ground for the industry,” a spokesperson for DeGolyer and MacNaughton said.

The ministry of oil will give additional details on the discovery, including initial findings of size and extraction viability at a press conference on Wednesday.
