Middle East's production capabilities on the agenda at SOGAT 2013

Event News

Sour Oil & Gas Advanced Technology (SOGAT) will return on 24 March 2013 with the four-day event set to focus on innovation and field developments within the industry

The event, which will take place in Abu Dhabi, will feature speakers such as ADCO senior vice president - BAB & GAS asset, Fareed Abdulla, and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) process engineer, Ralph Hirschfeld, who will impart their knowledge on state-of-the-art sour gas removal techniques and the development of the petrochemical sector across the Middle East.

The event will also focus on the impending environmental requirement to improve sulphur recovery unit (SRU) efficiency, how to overcome the detrimental effects of various contaminations in sour gas processing, managing polluting emission risks, and the proper management of engineering material selection to combat various corrosion scenarios and avoid costly repair or redesign aspects.

The development of sour gas fields in the UAE will also feature highly on the conference's agenda, with ADNOC having invited Wintershall and OMV to investigate the potential of the Sour Shuwaihat Field.

The increasing demand for gas at a rate of 15 per cent per annum across the Middle East has led the expansion of sour exploration and production developments as one of the major priorities for the region.

Current developments in Saudi Arabia include the offshore Karan field where the gas processing operations have commenced at the Khursaniyah gas plant, while the Shah Field in the UAE, which is expected to be operational by Q4 of 2014, will lead to an increase of gas capacity by 10.34bn cubic metre per year and would serve as an international benchmark in future sour gas development.

The event will take place at the Beach Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi and run from 24-28 March 2013.
