KOGS gets underway in Kuwait

The Kuwait Oil & Gas Show and Conference (KOGS) kicked off on the 11 October 2015 and will run through until 14 October at the Kuwait International Fair in Mishref

The event is considered among the largest oil and gas industry shows to be held in Kuwait and will be conducted under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait.

More than 3,500 regional and international attendees are expected to be present at the four-day show, which will have a multidisciplinary conference as well as an exhibition of oil and gas hardware and services.

Ali Saleh Al Omair, minister of oil and minister of state in the Kuwait National Assembly said, “I am pleased to announce the Kuwait Ministry of Oil’s support for the second edition of the SPE Kuwait Oil & Gas Show and Conference. The stature of this major international oil and gas exhibition and conference befits Kuwait’s international standing as one of the world’s leading oil producing nations, and mirrors the great strides we have made both upstream, downstream, and in our overseas activities”.

KOGS conference to address future of hydrocarbons
The conference is being organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Its main theme is Future Hydrocarbon Resources; Innovations, Technology and Opportunities, which will focus on key interest areas in the upstream and downstream sectors, including reservoir management, production operations, sustainable development, drilling and completion technologies, innovation, refining and the petrochemical industries, said the organisers. A special ceremony is expected to take place prior to the conference at the Hilton Kuwait Resort on 11 October 2015. Welcome addresses will be given by His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of Kuwait; Ali Saleh Al-Omair, minister of oil and minister of state of the Kuwait National Assembly; Nizar Al-Adsani, CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation; Hosnia Hashim, vice-president of operations in KUFPEC and Janeen Judah, 2017 SPE President.

Following this will be keynote speeches delivered by Abdalla Salem El-Badri, secretary general of OPEC; Hashem Hashem, CEO of Kuwait Oil Company, Mohammad Al-Mutairi, CEO of Kuwait National Petroleum Company; Bob Dudley, CEO of BP and Samir Brikho, chief executive of Amec Foster Wheeler. More than 180 technical and poster presentations designed to share the knowledge and experience of managing, operating and supplying companies will follow over the subsequent three days of the conference at Kuwait International Fair, delivered by more than 260 expert speakers from around 60 companies across 27 countries.

In addition to the special technical conference, there will be four industry panel sessions and five sessions led by CEOs, managers and presidents of national as well as international oil companies. The current oil market and the fluctuating price of oil will be a focal point of discussion, as leaders are expected to understand the role of natural gas, the need for innovation as well as the importance of overcoming scarcity of resources. Additionally, the role of women in networking and that of banks to aid the oil and gas sector will also be addressed.

SPE training courses for three delegates and two field trips will also be held, where next-generation oil and gas professionals and students will be provided opportunities to gain valuable career advice.

Oil and gas heavyweights to exhibit at KOGS
At the main exhibition, which begins on 12 October 2015, there will be more than 200 companies from 24 countries in attendance. Principal exhibitors include ADNOC, BAPCO, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Saudi Aramco and EQUATE. In addition to GCC companies, international entities such as Shell, Total, Schlumberger, GE Oil & Gas, Baker Hughes, ONGC, Amec Foster Wheeler, Halliburton and Weatherford, among others, will be exhibiting as well.
