Cable solutions company Tratos has announced the opening of Tratos Innovation Academy, or Phase I of the Knowsley Expansion, in the UK that is touted to be an innovation and education hub
The ceremony was attended by Mayor of Knowsley Edna Finneran, Mayor of Pieve Santo Stefano in Italy and the president of Tratos Cavi along with representatives from Regional Growth Fund, Chrysalis Fund, Liverpool Enterprise Fund and HSBC Bank.
President of Tratos Cavi Albano Bragagni underlined a number of the notable investments that included more than US$15.32mn spent on equipment and building costs at Knowsley. The size of the new facility has been quadrupled, from 5,000 sq m to nearly 20,000 sq m, he said.
This has, in turn, increased capacity for the range of products produced within the UK — from railways to energy sectors. Phase II, to be launched in November 2015, would mark the installation of a Faraday Cage to test medium and high voltage cable solutions in the country.
Beginning 2016, Tratos UK Ltd is expected to be the second largest UK-based cable manufacturer. Maurizio Bragagni, CEO of Tratos (UK) Ltd, announced that the company has invited the Finneran for the launch of Phase II.
The range of cables available from Tratos include single and multi-conductor high temperature, fire resistant, low smoke and fume, rubber, energy cables from low voltages up to 360kV, railway, motorway, data, fibre optic, oil and gas, plants and petrochemical industry, mining and tunnelling, ship wiring, drum reeling and telecommunications, cathodic protection, airfield lighting, cranes and mobile equipment, trains, transportation infrastructure, submarine, military and defence cables.
