Technip has been awarded an engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) contract by Qatar Petroleum (QP) for a project offshore Qatar
The contract will see the French firm take up QP’s FMB project, which includes a living quarter platform and a utility platform, with a bridge connecting the two.
Technip said the topsides for both platforms would be installed using floatover technology, which will allow large integrated topsides to be installed without the use of large crane vessels.
Although the value of the contract has not been disclosed, company sources estimated it to be between US$136.8mn and US$342mn.
Vaseem Khan, senior vice president of Technip Middle East, said, “This contract reflects the growing interest for the floatover technology, by allowing a safe project execution in a time and cost-effective way while overcoming heavy-lift challenges.
“With this strategic project, we have the opportunity to further consolidate our presence in Qatar and to strengthen our relationship with Qatar Petroleum.”
Technip’s operating centre in the UAE will carry out the contract, the company said.
