Promat protects LNG train project

Technology

Promat has supplied its Cafco FENDOLITE MII system as a primary part of the scheme to protect the GL2-Z LNG train project in Arzew, Algeria.

The new train is being developed by the IHI Group for SONATRACH, to expand capacity and meet increasing world demand for natural gas supplies. Cafco FENDOLITE MII is the industry-leading passive fire protection system and has been used at Arzew to protect steel structures and vessel skirts from fire attack.

Over 1,500 tons of Cafco FENDOLITE MII have been used on the project, applied by the Franco-Algerian fire protection specialists Travomed– Prezioso JV. Promat partners with an unrivalled international network of specialist contractors who supply and install the systems in petrochemical plant applications.

Promat was selected to supply Cafco FENDOLITE MII for this project on the basis of its service levels, plus the quality, fitness for purpose, whole life value and availability that has been demonstrated in service worldwide over 30 years. Cafco FENDOLITE MII is UL approved and manufactured in eleven factories worldwide. Cement is used as the main binding agent to link the insulating components.

Promat's Director for the Petrochemical Division, Fred Menguy, commented: "We are delighted to have been selected for this important project which underlines the confidence in our products and service. Fire and explosion can have a devastating effect on human life, the environment and business and therefore it is important that everybody involved in the design procurement and construction process ensures that risk management requirements have been met."

Promat and Travomed have previously supplied SONATRACH with over 1,000 tons of Cafco FENDOLITE MII for the Arzew.GL1-Z LNG train. The city of Arzew is situated about 400-km west of Algiers. Algeria has proven natural gas reserves of 4.5 trillion cubic metres, which amounts to about 2.6 per cent of the global reserves, and is the world's fourth-largest gas producer, supplying 25 per cent of the EU's natural gas imports.
