Offshore builder Lamprell has announced that it has signed a US$64mn deal to complete a major rig refurbishment for Millenium Offshore Services (MOS) in the UAE

The work scope of the contract includes the conversion of the jack-up MOS Frontier into an accommodation support vessel capable of housing 290 personnel.

MOS Frontier is a multi-purpose jack-up rig capable of operating in water depths of up to 300 feet.

Lamprell said that it would execute the project at its facility in Sharjah.

MOS purchased the rig from an offshore drilling company in April 2013 for US$25mn.

Robert Duncan, managing director of MOS, said, “That the rig is expected to further the company’s offering in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and North Africa markets.”

James Moffat, Lamprell’s chief executive, added that the contract was one of the company’s largest refurbishment and conversion projects in its history.
