China’s Anton Oilfield Services Group has won a bid for the provision of workover and other related services on three wells in middle Iraq

Anton is commissioned to provide workover, coiled tubing acidising and other downhole services, and Iraqi Drilling Company is the working partner who will supply rig equipment.

The contract for services is nearly US$18mn and the project will begin early next year, said Anton Oilfield Services Group.

Through this contract, the Chinese company can make its presence felt in new market areas in Iraq and work in collaboration with national oilfield services in the country. The company has a strong overseas market covering 14 countries in Central Asia, Middle East and Africa. The group can help oil companies solve challenges pertaining to production, drilling efficiency, costs and waste management.

According to the Anton management, the workover sector offers much potential for further development in Iraq. The smooth operation of such services would enable the group to achieve better profitability for its workover service segment and open up new opportunities for business overseas.
