Saudi Basic Industries Corp (Sabic) has said its subsidiary, Arabian Petrochemical Co (Petrokemya), has awarded Spanish engineering firm Tecnicas Reunidas (TR) an EPC contract to build a new petrochemical plant in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia

TR will build a new Acryilonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plant that will be added to the Petrokemya Complex in Jubail. The project is expected to start initial operations in Q4 2014.

The new plant will use Emulsion ABS technology licensed from SABIC Innovative Plastics.

The EPC contract has been valued at US$400 million and total investment in the plant has been estimated at $561 million, Sabic said in a statement.

The plant will have a production capacity of 140,000 tonnes per year of the ABS product, which will be able to support the automotive industry.
