Qurain to build a US$1 billion petrochemical plant in Saudi

Petrochemicals

Qurain Petrochemical Industries Co (QPIC) plans to develop a petrochemical plant, expected to cost more than $1 billion and located in Jubail, Saudis petrochemicals hub.

Production

The complex will produce an annual 800,000 tonnes of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and 1 million tonnes of purified terephthalic acid (PTA).

Distribution

Part of the PTA will be offered to local markets, and the bigger part transferred for downstream conversion into PET resin. Paraxylene will be used as feedstock which will be sourced from a local refinery.

The complex will support the downstream conversion industry in Saudi Arabia in the production of bottle preforms, sheet and films for the packaging of food and consumer goods.

Planning and development

QPIC has appointed IHS to advise on the planning and development of the project.
