Saudi Aramco has said that its computer network has been attacked by a virus, which caused parts of its systems to be shut down, but added that its oil production had not been affected by the attack
The state-owned oil company said in an e-mailed statement that the main components of its network were safe and normal operations should return to normal, but it was unable to provide a timetable for when normal service would resume.
“The network that runs the company’s major operations is safe and there are no effects whatsoever on production operations,” the statement read.
“The electronic systems were isolated completely and access to them from the outside was prevented as a precautionary measure.”
The virus entered Saudi Aramco’s network through personal computers, added the statement.
