Saudi Arabia’s petroleum company Saudi Aramco has launched its first Production Operations Surveillance Hub (POSH) at Ju’aymah Industrial Complex to monitor oilwells in the Persian Gulf
According to the company, the new hub will augment the onsite monitoring of oilwells around the Persian Gulf with real-time information from the production site.
By centralising surveillance in a single hub, Saudi Aramco will be able to anticipate and respond to problems more quickly, manage its equipment and assets more efficiently and maintain the reliability of the region’s hydrocarbon resources.
Nasir K Al-Naimi, vice-president of Saudi Aramco’s northern area oil operations, said, “By developing and using our own intelligent field technologies, we are not only increasing the reliability of our equipment, but also demonstrating our capacity to be a reliable global supplier of energy.”
Naji A Al-Umair, manager of the northern area production engineering at Saudi Aramco, said that POSH will provide advanced alerts to production engineers in the oilfield, which will allow them to work smarter and use equipment, resources and people more efficiently and effectively.
POSH will also help production departments track and coordinate field activities with a SAP-based enterprise solution that integrates and streamlines business processes for oilwell and oilfield services. Called the Well and Field Automation Project (WAFA), this solution will improve the business planning process, optimise the scheduling of jobs, enhance job completion efficiency and maximise the utilisation of resources.
