Italian offshore contractor Saipem has won new offshore drilling contracts in Norway and the Middle East totalling more than US$200mn
The company stated that one contract was signed with the German company Wintershall for the drilling of two wells plus two optional ones in continuity with previous engagements for operations offshore Norway.
The contract will be executed by the sixth-generation semi-submersible rig Scarabeo eight, a drilling unit capable of operating in harsh environments.
The rig is expected to be under operation until approximately Q2 2020.
In addition, one contract has been awarded to Saipem in the Middle East. This involves a four-year extension of the use of the Jack up Perro Negro seven high specs.
Perro Negro seven is a self-elevating drilling unit capable of operating in water depths of up to 375 feet. Work commenced at the end of the first quarter of 2019.
The company added that with this long-term commitment, Saipem is strengthening and confirming its presence in a major area of shallow water operations and a strategic market for the company as a whole.
Saipem is a leading company in engineering, drilling and construction of major projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
