Training and consultancy solutions provider to the global energy industry, Petrofac Training Services (PTS), has won the 2012 OPITO Safety and Competency Award for ‘International Training Provider of the Year’ at a ceremony in Abu Dhabi

The accolade recognises companies that are making a difference to the safety and competency of workers in the global oil and gas industry.

It was awarded to Petrofac Training Services for demonstrating its long-standing commitment to delivering OPITO standards.

PTS was commended for driving elevated standards of training in the US after setting up its first base in the Americas in 2004, the first training provider in the country to offer OPITO approved courses.

In recent years PTS has introduced a variety of OPITO-accredited modules across six training facilities in the region, including fire training and the Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET) and Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) modules.

According to PTS, the improved standards have been welcomed by operators looking to increase the competency of their workforce.

“This award is a welcome recognition of the hard work and dedication of our team and our commitment to provide the highest levels of competence across the international oil and gas sector,” said Paul Groves, managing director of Petrofac Training Services.

“As a result of our long-standing relationship with OPITO and determination to deliver the highest level of training to delegates around the world we now operate seven OPITO accredited training centres around the globe.
Petrofac Training Services won the ‘International Training Provider’ award ahead of fellow finalists, Consolidated Training Systems Inc and Megamas Training Company.

Other awards went to Stephen Macklin, HSE manager at Shell, who won the ‘Chairman’s Award’ and McDermott Middle East, which won the ‘Employer of the Year Award’.
