McDermott unit wins US$200 million offshore Gulf project

Industry

A subsidiary of US-based McDermott International has won a US$200mn engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) project in the Gulf

McDermott general manager, Middle East and Atlantic, Stewart Mitchell, said, “The engineering work will be overseen by our Dubai and Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, offices, while construction and transportation will be done from our Jebel Ali fabrication facility.”

The construction and engineering firm did not reveal the name of its Middle East client.

McDermott’s contract entails fabrication, transportation and installation of offshore facilities, including the construction of two production deck modules and 10 observation platforms. The company’s subsidiary would also work on two subsea pipelines, three submarine power cables and two fiber optic cable installations.

Installations will be done using McDermott’s fleet, which will be mobilised end of Q2 2014. The project has been scheduled for completion in Q1 2015.

Earlier this year, McDermott's subsidiary won two similar offshore Gulf contracts worth US$900mn.

“This project is a continuation of work, which was completed earlier for the same client. The knowledge and experience that we have gained over the years would give us great insight into the field and project execution requirements. We are pleased that our client showed continued confidence in McDermott,” Mitchell added.
