Kentz wins services contract for Qatargas Laffan Refinery

Industry

Kentz has announced that it has been awarded a technical support-services contract for the Qatargas Laffan Refinery in Qatar

Kentz is the holding company for Kentz Engineering and Construction Group and was awarded the Manpower services contract at the site to support the management over the next three years, company sources said.

Kentz has not, however, provided financial details of the contract.

This expansion project is expected to process an additional 146,000 bpd of condensate recovered from one of it non-associated gas fields — the North Field. The second phase of the Laffan Refinery project will double the capacity of the current refinery, sources added.

The Laffan Refinery 1 (LR1) currently produces 61,000 bpd of naphtha, 52,000 bpd of jet fuel, 24,000 bpd of gasoil and 9,000 bpd of liquid petroleum gas (LPG). Qatar Petroleum is the leading shareholder of the LR1 with a holding of 51 per cent.

The remaining shares are held by ExxonMobil, France’s Total, Japan’s Idemitsu and Cosmo each owning 10 per cent stakes and with two other Japanese companies — Mitsui and Marubeni — retaining 4.5 per cent each.

Shane Dooley-Cullinane, regional managing director, Middle East, of Kentz said, “We are pleased to build further on our relationship with Qatargas and to be awarded additional work on the Ras Laffan Refinery project.”
