German Oman joint venture to provide fuel delivery facility at Sohar Port

Industry

Omanoil Matrix Marine Services LLC, a joint venture (JV) between German’s Matrix Marine Holding and Oman Oil, will offer ex-pipe fuel deliveries to the Sohar Port and Freezone’s liquid bulk terminal

The fuel delivery will be provided through an exclusive 43,000 bcm storage agreement with the port’s liquid bulk terminal, managed by Oiltanking Odfjell, said officials.

In addition to the expansion of offshore refuelling options, Sohar Port and Freezone authorities have announced that they will add a 6,000 megaton barge to its fleet of ships. A 500 cu/m gasoil barge will also be built, which will extend the company's refuelling capacity across the port. Existing services, including providing ships with industry standard RMG 380 and marine gas oil fuels will be streamlined.

“Omanoil Matrix Marine Services are one of the leading providers of refuelling services and have built a global network of operations in Houston, Singapore, India, and Oman. The addition of intermediate fuel oil and gasoil barges to their fleet will give us a tremendous boost and we are naturally delighted they have chosen to do so,” said Edwin Lammers, executive commercial manager of Sohar Freezone and Port.

The expansion has been acknowledged positive as Sohar port continues to align its US$15bn marine infrastructure with that of Muscat’s 40-year old Port Sultan Qaboos, stated local reports.
