Oman Oil Marketing Company (omanoil) recently observed World Day for Safety & Health at Work in a bid to recognise the importance of health and safety at a workplace
On 28 April 2015, the Omani company launched a series of internal workshops that will help generate awareness on occupational safety hazards. The workshops introduced emerging trends in the field of occupational safety, while shedding light on the magnitude of work-related injuries, in an aim to reinforce proactive behaviour in the company staff.
With a strong emphasis on health and occupational safety, omanoil boasts of a record 22 years in the industry without any lost time injury (LTI). Mohammed Al Mujaini, omanoil’s senior manager of health, safety, security and environment said, “We are committed to adopting international best practices while upholding the highest levels of health and safety for our employees.”
The day, declared by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), reminds us that we cannot become complacent, and that health and safety is a philosophy that is strengthened through action. Our health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) programmes focus on four basic steps – plan, do, check and evaluate. This guides employees to the preventative line of action that needs to be taken in any given situation, while also giving them the opportunity to improve our tried and tested procedures with zero-tolerance for accidents.”
The company has distributed HSSE passports among employees, and has also launched an HSSE awards scheme that is meant to motivate employees to actively engage in health and safety challenges and work towards conceptualising preventive measures.
In addition, omanoil will also update its HSSE policies from time to time to remain at par with international standards.
