Two phases of Iran’s South Pars to go online in October

Gas

Phases 15 and 16 of Iran’s South Pars gas field in the Gulf are expected to start production soon, according to Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC)

Reza Forouzesh, project manager at POGC, said that the two phases will start production from mid-October, adding that the first desalting train of the refinery was launched in 2013.

Production from both phases located offshore South Pars field, jointly operated by Iran and Qatar, is forecast to reach 48.1mn cu/m per day in a month. The two phases are currently producing 31mn cu/m per day of gas, Forouzesh added. A drilling rig will be installed in these phases for completing the remaining wells.

The development of Phases 15 and 16 of the gas field, located on Iran-Qatar border, is aimed at producing 56.6mn cu/m per day of natural gas, 75,000 bpd of gas condensate, 400 tonnes per day of sulphur, 1.05mn tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas per year and one million tonnes of ethane for feeding petrochemical plants.

A consortium made up of Iranian companies is in-charge of the offshore and onshore development of Phases 15 and 16 at South Pars.

The gas field is currently supplying 300mn cu/m per day of gas, which is more than 70 per cent of Iran’s total gas consumption. Development of all 29 phases of the project is expected to be completed in three years.
