Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) and Uniper SE have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) targeting the importation of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) into the Port of Hamriyah in the Emirate of Sharjah in the UAE
First gas deliveries are expected to arrive into Sharjah in the spring of 2018, stated the SNOC, adding that gas will flow to the Sajaa gas field complex and then into the exisiting pipeline network throughout the Northern Emirates.
“We highly value this project which will add to the supply of gas in Sharjah and the northern emirates to meet the growing demand for energy. The combination of SNOC and Uniper efforts with all their capabilities and experience in natural gas activities will achieve the planned targets,” said Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Sharjah Petroleum Council, deputy chairman and Sharjah National Oil Corporation President.
SNOC explores, develops, and operates the existing gas fields in Sharjah including all associated plant and pipelines.
Hatem Al Mosa CEO of SNOC also noted, “We recognise the urgent need of the Northern Emirates for a reliable supply of natural gas that can be easily distributed to support large and small consumers, from the big power generators to small businesses. The Sajaa complex has traditionally been the centre of the gas supply business in the Northern Emirates and it is well placed to continue supporting the region.”
