Germany’s RWE Dea has announced that it has started natural gas production from its Disouq concession by the Nile Delta, onshore Egypt
The project encompasses the development of seven gas fields in the area to produce a total of 11.4bn cubic metres of gas. Disouq is the first gas project to be brought on production by RWE Dea as operator in Egypt.
The Disouq concession is in the Kafr el Sheikh Governerate that extends to the Mediterranean Sea. The concession currently comprises a total area of 3,217 sq km and was awarded to RWE Dea in July 2004.
Dirk Warzecha, chief operating officer of RWE Dea, said, “While we have been producing oil in the Gulf for almost 40 years, Disouq is the company’s first operated gas asset in Egypt.”
Company sources said that the gas produced from the North West Khilala (NWK) field is being collected in a temporary processing facility operated by Suez Oil Company, where it is separated into dry gas and condensate before being fed into the Egyptian gas supply grid.
By mid-2014, four of the fields will be in production and the concession will have its own central processing facility, RWE Dea said. Peak output of between four million and 4.5mn cubic metres per day is forecast for the middle of 2014, the German explorer added.
RWE Dea holds 100 per cent interest in the development with Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) as state partner.
