RasGas has announced that four offshore topside modules are scheduled to reach Qatar’s North field for installation at the Barzan Gas Project within the next month from South Korea
RasGas, a Qatar-based joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil, said that the completed topsides would reach Qatar by mid-October 2013.
The topsides, manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries and weighing a total of 9,500 tonnes, include three wellhead platforms and an additional living quarters module, the company added.
Nafez Bseiso, RasGas’ chief venture officer, said the completion and sail away of the topsides marked the culmination of 32 months of collaboration between the RasGas and Hyundai project teams in Malaysia and South Korea.
Hyundai’s engineering, procurement and construction contract covered the offshore facilities for the project, including the modules and associated pipelines.
When in operation, RasGas’ facilities of liquefied natural gas and pipeline sales gas will have a total production capacity of around 311mn standard cubic metres of gas per day, company sources said.
