Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has signed a six-year LNG supply deal worth US$12bn with Shell in order to meet the rising energy demands during summer
According to state-owned company, KPC also has plans to sign a US$3bn LNG supply deal with BP.
Nasser al-Mudaf, head of KPC’s international marketing division, however, did not provide the volume of the super-cooled gas that would be supplied by both the companies.
The company added in a statement that it wants to burn LNG instead of resorting to diesel and crude oil, which have higher harmful emissions.
According to Reuters, Kuwait began importing LNG in 2009 and signed deals with Shell and Swiss-based trader Vitol to supply it from April to October, the period of peak power demand, for the last four years.
