The managing director of Pars Oil and Gas Company, Mousa Souri, has announced that Iran will increase gas production in the giant South Pars gas field
Souri said that the country would surpass Qatar's gas production in the shared field, according to the Fars News Agency.
He added that the development of phases 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18 of South Pars would add nearly 200mn cu/m per day of sour gas to the output on the field’s Iranian side.
Iran currently produces 300mn cu/m per day of gas from South Pars.
The South Pars gas field holds eight per cent of the world’s total gas reserves and covers an area of 9,700 sq km, 3,700 sq km of which are in Iran's territorial waters with the remaining 6,000 sq km in Qatar's territorial waters.
