Emerson Process Management has launched its Roxar Wetgas Meter for subsea gas pipelines

Unveiled at OTC 2015 in Houston this week, the new meter is designed to prevent damage caused by formation water breakthrough into wells.

Using microwave-based measurements to detect changes in the water content of a flowing well at as little as 0.2 parts per million (ppm), Emerson said that the Roxar is the most sensitive meter available.

The Roxar meter also comes equipped with a built-in salinity measurement system – another first for the offshore industry.

Svein Erik Gregerson, product manager, flow metering at Emerson, said, “As oil and gas producers look at more ways to improve the bottom line, the innovative enhancements to our new wet gas meter couldn’t have come at a better time.

“More and more operators are making wet gas metering an integral part of their future flow assurance, production optimization and hydrocarbon allocation strategies.”

Water breakthrough into flowing wells can cause hydrates, corrosion, scaling and water coning in the reservoir, representing some of the biggest problems for offshore gas companies.
