Egypt’s oil minister has announced that natural gas production would increase by 14.1mn cubic metres per day by December this year with several gas fields due on stream in the north African country

Sherif Ismail said that the expected increase would effectively be closer to 12.7mn cubic metres per day once natural attrition in well productivity is accounted for.

The boost will bring gas production to 147.2mn cubic metres per day by the end of December, Al-Ahram website quoted Ismail as saying.

Ismail said the fields due to come on stream include Daka, Sapphire and Libra, but did not name the firms developing the fields. He added that Egypt is currently producing 680,000 barrels of oil and condensate per day.
