Caterpillar has announced the release of the latest version of its G3600 engine, the G3600 A4
The latest edition in the G3600 series represents a 5.5 per cent horsepower (hp) increase over its predecessors, with further increases made possible by taking advantage of the engine’s ambient temperature capability.
In line with current industry trends and increasing emissions regulation, the G3600 A4 provides in-cylinder NOx emissions control at 0.5g/BHP-Hr, with an additional 0.3g/BHP-HR NOx rating to be made available later this year.
Caterpillar announced it will also launch a 1,500–5,000 hp series of electric motors for the gas compression industry, which will be available for order in Q3 2015.
Caterpillar’s oil and gas general manager Dave Dunlevy said, “We’ve seen a trend towards the utilisation of electric motors and drives in gas compression applications as shale gas proximity to areas serviced by utility power has grown.”
Dunlevy added, “In recent years, we have strategically evolved our product and service portfolio to enable us to offer more to our customers, including well-stimulation pumps for the well service market and components and solutions for hazardous locations.”
