Spectrum extends 3D seismic survey offshore Lebanon

Exploration & Production

Spectrum has announced the start of phase two of its multi-client 3D survey in the Levantine Basin, offshore Lebanon

The survey is being carried out in cooperation with Fugro Geoteam and the Geo Barents seismic vessel is acquiring the data by towing eight streamers.

The new survey comprises 1,200 sq km of long offset seismic data.

Phase two is covering an area adjacent to and to the south of phase one, which was completed in October and consists of 2,320 sq km.

The initial 3D cube from phase one is currently undergoing final processing.

“We are extremely pleased to acquire the second part of this exciting new 3D survey, especially with the acquisition footprint being so close to recent gas discoveries to the south,” said David Rowlands, Spectrum's EVP for the region.

“The results of the fast-track processing of phase one confirm our expectations from the interpretation of the 2D data.

“This is truly a very exciting area for hydrocarbon exploration with a number of different prospect and play types.”

The acquisition of phase two data is scheduled to finish in December.
