Saipem awarded multi-billion contract for Kuwaiti refinery

Exploration & Production

Italy’s Saipem-led consortium has been awarded a US$1.57bn contract to build storage tanks and pipelines for the al-Zour refinery in Kuwait

The contract extends for 45 months and the Saipem consortium was the lowest bidder for the project, said Kuwait National Petroleum Company spokesman Khalid al-Asousi.

Last month, KNPC awarded contracts worth US$11.5bn to build the refinery, touted to be among the largest in the Middle East once complete. Once completed, the al-Zour refinery will supply light fuels to Kuwait.

However, Asousi said all the contracts pertaining to the al-Zour refinery will take place in early October.
